New Exhibit, 'Extraordinary Bodies: Mutter Museum Photographs'

Mixture of Science, Medicine and Photography Creates Fine Art That
Explores the Human Condition PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ --
EVENT: The Mutter Museum showcases more than a decade of work by
contemporary fine-art photographers in an exhibition making its
Philadelphia debut, "Extraordinary Bodies: Mutter Museum
Photographs." Unconventionally beautiful, these works of art by
aesthetically diverse photographers use the Mutter Museum
collections as their subject matter. Accompanied by a selection of
reproductions of historic medical photographs from the museum's
collection, the contemporary photographs continue the longstanding
bond between medicine and photography. The exhibition has been
traveling nationally since 2002 and is being presented for the
first time at the Mutter. The exhibition is made possible with
support from the Groff Family Memorial Trust and runs through 2008.
DATE: Friday, Feb. 29 Opening begins at 6 p.m. Wine and Cheese
Reception free with Museum Admission. Valid ID required. PLACE: The
College of Physicians of Philadelphia 19 South 22nd Street,
Philadelphia PARTICIPANTS: Laura Lindgren, curator of the
exhibition, is editor and publisher of the photography book "Mutter
Museum Historic Medical Photographs" and art director/publisher of
the popular Mutter Museum calendars. The exhibition includes
photographs by Shelby Lee Adams, Max Auguilera-Hellweg, Gwen Akin
and Allan Ludwig, Candace diCarlo, Dale Gunnoe, Steven Katzman,
Mark Kessell, Scott Lindgren, Olivia Parker, Rosamond Purcell,
Richard Ross, Ariel Ruiz i Altaba, Harvey Stein, Arne Svenson,
William Wegman, Joel-Peter Witkin, and a selection of reproductions
